Sportsman series PA-12 Tell you how yo assemble

Sportsman series PA-12 Tell you how yo assemble

I recently obtained PA-12 ARF and wanted to provide a build thread. This model is from their “Sportsman Series” of entry level beginners planes. The PA-12 has similar looks to J3 Cubs. The PA-12 is a basic high-wing, tail-dragger plane. Items included with the ARF are your basic hardware package with assembly tools, pre-painted decorated foam parts, installed motor/ESC combination, installed push-rods and hinged flight control surfaces. Also included with the ARF is a 7-cell 650mah NiMH pack and 12v Timer battery charger.

Air Show in Miniature Takes to the Skies

Helicopters, gliders, jets and propeller planes will be flying en masse at the Patuxent Aeromodelers Club third annual community day on May 12 from 10 am to 5 pm at the club’s air field adjacent to Greenwell State Park.  While not the typical air show staged at the Naval Air Station attended by thousands, the excitement and entertainment value of the show in miniature can hold its own.
Flying remote control airplanes or helicopters is the best way to satisfy the yen to fly, short of piloting a full-size aircraft. While nothing tops that experience, flying remote control airplanes comes pretty close to the real thing.  Here’s how it works. A radio controlled model aircraft, often called RC aircraft or RC plane, is controlled remotely by a hand-held transmitter and a receiver within the craft.  The receiver controls the corresponding servos that move the control surfaces based on the position of the joysticks on the transmitter which in turn affect the plane’s orientation.
The radio controlled flying hobby has rocketed in popularity in recent years with electric powered airplanes and helicopters becoming less expensive, more widely available and easier to fly than ever before.  For less than $100, a newcomer to the hobby can get started with a small ready-to-fly electric plane and transmitter.  It's these electric powered aircraft that have drawn so many newcomers to the hobby lately, but internal combustion models are still widely available and continue to have a loyal following.
Planes painted to mimic their full grown counterparts like the F4U Corsair, the T-6 Texan or even a Piper Cub will line the field for takeoff with up to eight simultaneous flights throughout the day.  And, there’s more in store at the community day then just sitting back and watching.  This event is geared to engage the spectator by providing free “buddy box” lessons.  The buddy box experience offers newcomers a chance to share controls of an airplane with an expert.
The Patuxent Aeromodelers Club affords young aspiring pilots a chance to get hooked on the hobby.  In association with the Academy of Model Aeronautics Education Department, kids will be building their own free flight gliders to take home compliments of the club.   Students from the Great Mills High School Engineering Club will have their airplanes on display at the community day as well and will be on hand to share information about the upcoming Association of Unmanned Air Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI) competition.  Great Mills High School is recognized as the first high school team to successfully fly at the AUVSI student competition held annually at Webster Field. College students from around the world compete in this prestigious event.
There will be a refreshment concession and a raffle for an RC simulator.

Radio-control hobby takes off

The second you walk into Dennis Stanley's Berry Road home, you know what his passion is — radio controlled (RC) models. Attached to the wood panel walls are three large model airplanes, while on a nearby table sits a beautiful radio-controlled sail boat.

The ardent RC hobbyist belongs to the Salinas Area Modelers (SAM), a group of local RC enthusiasts who have their own field at 2460 Chualar River Road. Although he tends to stay close to home, Stanley does occasionally venture to other parts of the state for Fun Flys, where other RC club modelers gather.
"The Fun Flys tend to be categorized and specialize in one type of airplane," he said. "It might be large-scale planes, helicopters, electric-powered models or water aircraft."
"By the way rc battery online shop:Gens ace, lipo 6s products are good for heli and airpalne!"

Tell you how to assemble Cargo Transport ARF

I have been building and flying model airplanes for about five years now and while I am currently active in a glow-powered club, I am still very interested in electric models. It has been a while since I assembled an electric ARF and I have never built or flown a model with more than one motor. Based on this, the Cargo Transport really caught my eye.
 FIRST IMPRESSIONS:
This model came safely packed with an outer box and a well-designed styrofoam insert. All components were secured and all loose pieces were baggedReview of Cargo Transport ARF

separately and taped down to prevent shifting in transit. The model comes with the basic components of the airframe as well as the pushrods, 650 mah Nimh battery, electronic speed control, propellers, manual, DC charger, miscellaneous hardware and even a phiilips head screwdriver.

Tell you how to assemble P-51 Free-Flight

I was intrigued about converting the P-51D Mustang from its free-flight configuration over to a light-weight indoor R/C model.  The product specs are as follows:
Wingspan 11 inches, Length 9.3 inches and an all up weight of 8 ounces.
This model has a small pager motor and an 80 mAh Nimh akku cell to provide power.   Its size obviously dictates the use of micro r/c gear and a little fore thought for the conversion.
I have decided to use Plantraco gear for both power and radio control.
The P-51D is listed as product GEEF0400
Should this conversion be successful, I may try conversion on the rest of the fleet.
p-51
The first task was to determine how to crack open the P-51 without destroying the model in the process. The P-51 is assembled at the factory with a combination of CA and silicon glues.  A #11 hobby blade is a little too thick and unwieldy for cutting the fuselage open. A single edge razor blade is probably worse.
I ended up making a wonderful “joint separator” from a disposable razor (3-blade) and a short length of yellow control rod tubing. After carefully separating the razor head and removing the blades, one end of each blade was snapped off at a 45 degree angle for ease of use. Once the blade was glued to the end of control rod tube, I now had a wonderful surgical instrument that has a blade less than 1/2 the thickness of a #11 blade. It is also nicely flexible for cutting between the wing and fuselage at the glue joint.
The first item removed from the model was the tail section. The cutting action of the disposable razor made clean work of this part of the operation.
